With the colder weather of a London Winter, a busy start to the work year and a big trip back home at the end of 2022, the London travel scene has been a little quieter for me lately. While there are many upcoming travel plans on the horizon and many more day trips to enjoy, the last two months have been spent resting at home rather than busily travelling everywhere. I realised I hadn’t done a foodie post for a while so thought this was the perfect opportunity to do so! Enjoy the below additions to an ever-growing list of restaurants and bars to visit in London.
When I looked back on previous food posts, I was in genuine shock that this one had yet to be mentioned, especially considering how often I rave about Borough Market! You’ll be spoilt for food choices if you visit Borough Market but, if it all feels overwhelming and you can only eat one thing, it simply has to be a pulled pork sandwich from The Black Pig. The ciabatta is perfectly toasted, the pork is succulent and the addition of the parmesan, fennel slaw and pesto elevate this sandwich to another level. I always tell myself I’ll try something different when I visit Borough Market and it just never happens because this sandwich is just that good.

Staying on the market theme, Broadway Market in Hackney is a great choice if you’re looking for a cheap and easy meal. The market offers everything from Thai food to roti wraps and falafel bowls. Stall upon stall of food vendors line the street and you’ll genuinely struggle to choose what to eat because of the variety on offer. For my first time there, I had a paneer roti wrap which was delicious and well worth every penny.

Bone Daddies is a great cheap eat if you’re looking for some ramen on a cold Winter’s evening. While Bone Daddies have restaurants all throughout London, I would highly recommend you go to the Soho one, especially if you are in the city. A small establishment, there is usually a queue out the front from 6pm onwards so prepare to wait if you arrive late. However, it is worth it. The broth is filled with flavour and you can get unlimited additional toppings for a few pounds! They also do a monthly special ramen, if you’re looking to try something different.

A French inspired restaurant serving small plates on the edge of Borough Market, Boro Bistro is a great place for a dinner out that is reasonably priced. With seating both inside and out, there’s opportunities to enjoy this restaurant all year round and it works well for both small and large parties. All meals are small plates which are designed to share so you get to taste a little bit of everything. If you get a chance to eat here, I would highly recommend the Pulled Pork Parmentier, the Jerusalem Artichoke or a cheese platter to finish your meal (we asked the waiter to choose the cheeses for us and everything was sublime). As a bonus, majority of the produce comes from the traders at Borough Market, making for a nice connection with the surrounding area.

Evelyns’ Table – what an experience this was! If you’re going to Evelyn’s Table, you’re going for a special occasion and you’re going to sit and enjoy this incredibly special experience. Located at the bottom of the Blue Posts Pub in Soho, eating at this 1 Michelin Starred location is a meal you will not forget in a hurry. A 5 course tasting menu (although there are some additional surprises throughout), every dish was innovative and new and extremely delicious. From one of the best tea based palate cleansers I’ve ever had to an incredibly moreish carrot and scallop dish, Evelyn’s Table was well worth the price tag. The theatre of the restaurant, as the chefs cook and plate in front of you, adds to the experience and, at no point, feels intrusive or too loud. Instead, it simply feels natural that you should watch the masters at work. While this is not an every day restaurant – reservations can be extremely hard to come by – if you’re looking for a special occasion restaurant, this is it.

Yes, Vagabond Wines may be a chain, but every second shop in the UK is a chain so it’s hard to get through a post about food and drink without mentioning at least one chain somewhere along the way! Vagabond Wines is also one of those chains that is worth going to time and time again. While they do sell tapas style food, the wines are the best part of this experience. When you arrive, you’ll be given a ‘Vagabond’ card which you can top up and use to self serve your wine selections. The best part – you can choose from three different glass sizes. Unsure about what you want to drink? Get a few samples to try first before committing to a regular or large glass! The whole experience is just a lot of fun and very novel, especially if you’re wanting to try multiple wines before you buy.

An upmarket pub near St James Park, this is a great one to add to the list if you’re looking for a fancy Sunday Roast. The space is open and modern, with a few quirky pieces of décor to give the restaurant some extra life. The drink selection is wide ranging with something for everyone. And the food is absolutely delicious! While not your every day pub grub kind of place, it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for a something little bit more upmarket for your Sunday afternoon.

This hidden neighbourhood wine bar in Battersea is the perfect spot for a lazy Sunday afternoon, selling a wide range of natural wines. With both outdoor and indoor seating, the space has clearly been crafted to make you feel relaxed, with light streaming through the windows and greenery dotted throughout to add colour to the room. The wines are proudly displayed on the walls throughout the bar and the staff are more than ready to provide recommendations if you’re finding it too hard to choose. They also sell a mixture of small bites and slightly bigger plates if you’re a little peckish.

In comparison to Blue Boar, East Putney Tavern is your perfect mixture of pub and bar, where the drinks are flowing and classic pub grub is served. Not particularly large, this space gets extremely lively of a Friday and Saturday evening as everyone comes out to enjoy their weekend. The interior is modern, the drinks are well priced and the live music gives this pub a lively and joyful atmosphere. If you’re looking for a fun night out, surrounded by good vibes and great live music, look no further than East Putney Tavern!
